Residence and work permits
If you wish to live, work and study in Switzerland you need to apply for a residence and work permit. The conditions applicable for residence in Switzerland are dependent on both your nationality as well as on the reason for your stay.

Permits for citizens of EU-27/EFTA states
Switzerland allocates no more immigration quota to member states of the EU-27/EFTA. Citizens from these countries may apply for a residence and work permit by presenting a signed Swiss working contract or stating their intentions to set up a Swiss business on their own.

The transition period for Romanian and Bulgarian nationals will end from 1 June 2019 and they will enjoy full freedom of movement from this date.

Since 1 January 2017, Croatian nationals benefit from the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons. However, transitory provisions apply.

Permits for citizens of Non-EU/EFTA states
Non-EU/EFTA citizens are still subject to the Swiss immigration quota system. Only highly qualified or specialized management personnel are eligible for a work permit. Moreover, Swiss employers who intend to employ a citizen from a non-EU/EFTA state need to prove to the authorities that no qualified person in Switzerland or in any of the EU/EFTA states can be found to perform the respective job. An exception is made with respect to employees being transferred within an international company.

Registration
Persons of foreign nationality must register with Office for Migration within 14 days of their first arrival in Baar or their moving here from another canton in Switzerland. In this connection the following documents have to be presented:
• Passport or identity card for nationals of an EU/EFTA Country
• Assurance of residence permit if the employer is in another canton
• 2 passport photos
• Residence Permit for foreigners with confirmation of departure from the previously registered town or municipality

After the registration with the Office for Migration in Zug the registration will be forwarded directly to the Baar Residents’ Registry Office. It is not necessary for you to appear in person at the Residents’ Registry Office.

Non-EU/EFTA nationals planning to move to Baar are advised to first make their application to the Office for Migration and only to move here once the residence permit has been issued.
